Hello again fellow buurpers, as promised, despite the long delay, the second installment of our coverage on DePastry Chef café in Bandar Sri Menjalara.

Have you visited them yet? If you did and managed to sample some of the cakes and pastries we suggested, do drop a comment or two here [link to first article]. If you haven’t, what are you waiting for? Go get yourself caked! Shame on you!
This time around we will take a slightly different route, bringing you closer to your Homo sapiens nature with a much more carnivorous adventure.
Mary had a little chicken, little chicken, little chicken!
I must say DePastry has the ability to always cook-up something that is common; among other restaurants, available from fine dine setup to roadside stall serving western food, into something special and memorable.
One of the café’s signature dishes is the Maryland Chicken Chop, served with their secret blend of mushroom gravy and some delicious looking fries.

After spending some necessary photo shot time on the subject and wrestling off goldfries and lexiegirl to the cutleries, I managed to put a knife through the meat.
The moment: I can’t help but notice the tenderness feeling to it, not to mention the crispiness of the skin, giving you an oomph factor. The taste is actually well blended, with the freshness of the chicken coming to mind and the juice that oozes out in your mouth, simply smashing.
Ok, now my daughter is complaining that I changed the song’s main character from little lamb to chicken, but I am sure when she is at the right age to start gobbling this piece of ‘magic’ she would understand, since daddy or mommy is picking up the RM9.50 tab.
Cheese and Fish – A dairy married a mariner!
Who said that cheese and fish don’t play along well!
It looks like a real simple dish, golden brown fish fillet laced with fine looking cheese sauce over some nicely cooked pasta noodles.

But as the saying goes, don’t judge the books by its cover. The fish fillet gives you that feeling like it is straight out of the sea, the freshness and quality of the mariner certainly sticks.
Seriously, I am wondering if DePastry actually keeps a Cyclops in the kitchen to tend to the cheese, as not only does the cheese taste wonderfully good, but it is so smooth you can moonwalk on it. And most importantly, the lightness of the cheese actually makes the meal satisfying, without making you feel overloaded.
What is missing? A nice glass of white wine to go with it perhaps; Bernard, can I sneak some in the next time?
At RM5.50, it’s a good catch mate!
Nevertheless, fine and crispy, I’m glad that the outer crust of the fillet wasn’t neither fried too crispy nor overwhelming in flour content. I didn’t pay much attention to the sauce and the pasta. And by the way, the sauce came in a bowl.
White textured fresh chunky meat became visible just as I slice through the meat. The thought of a spoonful of it in my mouth right now makes me salivate even more.
Taking a dive with the Salmon – Sashimi, the DePastry way!
DePastry stays true to their QC, freshness guaranteed!

A picture speaks a thousand words. Just by looking at it really had me mesmerizing and thinking of my first encounter with it was heavenly.
The salmon lightly cooked to rich golden yellowish in color, was a delight to look at and it certainly whet my appetite. The fish skin at the rim was cooked to perfection with its crispy texture giving you the tantalizing feel to it.
True to their promises, the fish’s freshness stood out, the texture remained firm and tender even though we started abusing it with our fork. Served together with the Salmon steak was another of their in-house specialty, the mash potato and their sauce which had little too sweet a taste to our liking.
But nevertheless, the Norwegian Salmon Steak @ RM19.00 was value for money.
