Penang.Hock - Penang Style Noodles

Do you know where is the most expensive carpark in KL?
Nope, not Renaissance, not Shangrila, not even the famous discos jockey’s parking.

Allow me to introduce, its located in Sri Hartamas, costing you RM 300 per entry.
Yeah, of course I am joking. Its only RM 3.00 per entry. What that’s more important, is not the parking for sure. (This is a food blog man!)

Its Penang.Hock that I want to share about today. So, what’s so famous about Penang.Hock? Another typical Penang ‘Char Kuey Tiaw’ stall alike (The generics, ie.Penang Char Kuey Tiaw, Seremban Siew Pao, but not originate from there, pretty much of the local style) which is managed by Myanmar workers, located in KL food court?
Nope. Not at all.

This is Ah Hock (That brother on the left, not the right), he hails from Penang & speaks in very fluent Penang Hokkien, selling Penang style noodles.

Here’s their menu.

Almost everyday, they have got different style of noodles, except ‘Loh Mee’, which is sold on Tuesday, Thursday, as well as Friday (Of course, this is their trademark mee).

Let’s start off with their Curry Noodle, (Only available on Monday) which is very much different from the KL style. Not to forget, they are very generous with their ingredients, as you can see from the picture.

They call it the ‘White Curry Mee’, as the soup is whitish in color.

But when mixed this sambal, it will turn to be……

like this, which look very much like the ordinary Curry Mee. I like this very much, for me, I prefer to put additional sambal to spice up the soup. When its all mixed with the dry tofu, cuttle fish, prawns & mint leaves, it tastes good!

Well, one thing that I dislike is their cock-ells, its too fresh & bloody, not to my liking. (But for those whom appreciate bloody cock-ells, you will definitely enjoy it) I also forgotten to ask them not to exclude the cock-ells.

Oh yeah, another ingredient will be added upon request. Do you know what is this? Its ‘Pig blood’, yeah & its edible, coagulated in cubes.

So, if you are a fan of Curry Mee, you should give it a try. Even if you are not, you can try it, who knows you will be a convert.

Ahh, this is their trademark – Loh Mee, which is rice and egg noodles in broth thickened with corn starch and beaten eggs, served with prawns, eggs, meat slices, bean sprouts, fry onions & garlic paste. Its definitely a MUST TRY!

I just simply love their thick sauce, & will usually order the big bowl. (Remember, only available on Tuesday, Thursday & Friday)

Their home made sambal goes very well with the Loh Mee & I usually need two small plates of this.

This is Lam Mee, which the Penangites call it the ‘Birthday Mee’. Lam Mee is traditionally served in plate, instead of bowl. The reason they call it Birthday Mee is because this is usually prepared for the family’s older generations’ birthday celebration. This is also very different from the KL’s Lam Mee, which is thicker in terms of both the Mee & Soup. (More starchy)

Similar to the Loh Mee, its also served with the sambal, which I enjoyed very much.

On Friday, they have Hokkien Mee.

Nope, you didn’t hear me wrong. In KL, its commonly known as – Har Mee, but to the Penangites, its Hokkien Mee. Well, of course, in their menu, its still Har Mee for easy understanding. Har Mee to me is not bad, because I am not a fan of Har Mee, so to me, all Har Mee are more of less the same.

So, if you are a fan of Penang food, now you get a chance to try out at Penang.Hock, do give it a try.

Here’s the location, just in case you can’t find it. Its located at the side of True Fitness, which is the open carpark. If you are eating there, parking is free of charge. Cheers!

The main landmark will be True Fitness, (Opposite the side of it, an open car park) Burger King (Just beside Burger King).. Sri Hartamas isn’t too big, so, I am very sure that u will definitely see True Fitness, its occupying abt 1 whole stretch of shop lots, with at least 2 – 3 floors..

At Hartamas True Fitness, it’s a one-way street. Immediately after the left turn, there’s Penang.Hock on your right. You’ll see it even before you see Burger King.
