Just about 2 weeks back, the Buurps crew brought you coverage of the The Malaysia International Gourmet Festival 2008’s Media Launch. Today, we bring you our coverage yet again, and this time – the much anticipated gala launch for the Malaysia International Gourmet Festival 2008, celebrating a month long festival, highlighting the experience of fine-dining!
The gala launch was held on the night of 30th October 2008, at the Putrajaya Ballroom of Putrajaya Marriot Hotel.
On behalf of the Buurps crew, I would like to thank the organizer AsiaReach Events Sdn Bhd for inviting us to the Gala Launch of MIGF 2008. Now, on with the gala launch!
Lexiegirl and I arrived quite early at the venue, we saw an array of sponsors setting up their booth and counters, red carpet marked the path where the VIPs would take as they proceed to the ballroom.
A Peek Before The Rest
Being part of the media, we were graciously allowed the opportunity to have a sneak peek at what’s awaiting the guests for the night.
Here’s what the Putrajaya Ballroom looked like, just how busy it was as time drew near to the launch.
The dimly-lit ballroom was with an air of excitement and exuberance, the staff from participating restaurants were doing their final round of inspection to ensure that their unique booths and display of food were at their very best while the center of the ballroom lies a stage but no one knows exactly what to expect from them, even with the myriad of musical instruments in public view.
I must say the sneak peek opportunity given to us was tremendously helpful. Had not for it, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to present you with some of the food that we thought to be very well presented.
Peeking Is Over
After being allowed to explore the ballroom for nearly an hour, we were requested to exit the area to make way for the final preparation. 🙂
By then, the crowd outside the ballroom had grown in numbers and we see even more guests trickle to the scene the launch draws near.
Not long after our departure from the ballroom, came the arrival of the Guest of Honor – YB Dato’ Sri Zulhasnan Rafique (Minister of Federal Territories)
and also Royal Patron – DYMM Tuanku Pemangku Yang DiPertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan Tunku Naquiyuddin ibni Tuanku Ja’afar.
A welcome address was then presented by MIGF 2008’s Organizing Chairman, YBhg Dato’ Steve Day with a humorous speech that sets the trail of culinary mood of the event.
Let The Festival Begin!
The end of Dato’ Steve Day’s speech marks also the beginning of the festival as he and the guests were ushered to the entrance to officiate the event!
As you can see from the photo above, they have to cut their way through in order to make an entrance to the event!
Lo and behold! (in reference to the photo below) A 2nd entrance that requires cutting? Again? What lies behind this replica of the previous entrance?
The guys took no second-thought in cutting their way through the 2nd entrance just like how they did the first one.
Right when the 2nd entrance was opened – it was a gush of festive sound come boom right at me! I’ve never experienced such excitement in any launch before and I must say I was well impressed!
The eagerness and enthusiasm of the crowd was 2nd to none as all of us, including myself, were lead by the sound of the clanging of kitchen utensils – I kid you not! And in our path to the ballroom we were walking under kitchen utensils! I kid you not as well!
Did you see that? I just walked under a bunch of kitchen utensils, and to be greeted by the master chefs’ clanging of kitchen utensils, it was clearly not what kitchen utensils should be used for but I must say the clang-bang-chang really set the mood for the occasion.
Never in my life I had walked under so many kitchen utensils, and never in my life (as a musician) have I enjoyed the senseless banging of kitchen utensils. (I have a feeling I’m over-using the words “kitchen utensils”…………)
It was amazing, I was with the crowd one moment and 2 minutes later I was up there with the master chefs! It was truly an experience. And guess who joined the master chefs in their musical cookery?
It Ain’t Over Yet!
C’mon, seriously – do you think that after all that ear-deafening clang-bang-chang of culinary equipments would be followed by a quiet session of food sampling? 😀
Things were just getting started, warming-up session is now over and everyone’s taste buds are revving for and evening of senses.
I’ll let the pictures do the talking for this part, take a look!
It was an awesome experience, we have clowns, babes, angels and a living statue – right here in this ballroom!
The VIPs get a dedicated seating area, surrounded by candles and balloon. Of course the balloon were part of the decoration, covering most part of the ballroom floor.
Food Galore, Crowd and More!
Smile! You’re on Candid Camera! Well I wasn’t candid in anyway, seeing that I’m lugging around a huge black soul-capturing device but I can almost guarantee you that people were practically oblivious to clicks, snaps and flashes by now as all senses were only focused on the food, food, and more food!
Even the chefs were having a great time! Celebrities such as Ida Nerina (Amazing Race Asia, Season 3) and Elaine Daly were there too, just to name a few.
Lights, Sound and MUSIC!
I must say that the organizers did a great job for having the right group of people to perform with salvo after salvo of up-beat and feet-moving beats from the past.
I saw that the crowd really enjoyed the performance. Many were gathered around, others were moving to the beat! As they say, WE WILL ROCK YOU!
Eng of a Night, Beginning of a Month
Here’s a parting shot from me to my dear readers, the sight of the lonely video man who’s keeping an eye on the video camera, providing live coverage of the performers as it was televised to all the TVs around the hall.
It was a splendid event, so great that I hope not to miss the event for the upcoming years. Stay tuned to buurps.com as we could possibly providing you coverage of the restaurants that are participating in MIGF 2008!
Literally we were drunk with food….buurps!
The first hand tasting of festival menus was indeed exciting and the food was deliciously ….. mmmph!….. yummilicious! …
There were overs 20 judges going around the ballroom grading the food, and also the presentation of both the menus and the booth concepts, even the attire of the participating representatives.
It was a fun packed night that I will never forget …. Bon Appetit!!!
Well, instead of waiting for us to write about it – you too could experience it yourself, first hand! Please visit http://www.migf.com for more details
