This week, we wish to highlight one of our (meaning myself and lexiegirl’s) favorite makan place when we want to eat A LOT (as if we don’t always do) without incurring a huge dent in our pocket, purse and wallet.
It’s a good way to spare the funds for eating at other costly places, no?
Thaibase offers a great mix of local (Chinese, Malay, Thai….. which is not so local) and Western food, among many other things. The restaurant covers 2 floors, both being rather different. Frankly we’ve never been to the one at the bottom since we like the cozy dining area on the top floor better.
Now this place is HIDDEN – you won’t see it from the main road and neither will you see any directional signboards either.
If you’re aware of Bandar Sri Damansara area already, then it’s just behind the block that houses RHB and Pizza Hut.
Here’s what it looks like at night.

Here’s the dining area, some of the dining tables are old sewing machines refit with table top. The walls are strangely not Thai influenced at all, in fact framed are the classy black and white fashion photos.

Here’s what we ordered. Butter Cream Chicken…

…and Mixed vegatables

I wished to taste lesser sesame seed flavor and a touch of Chinese wine. However, since this restaurant serve “Halal” food, then I would pass this dish as alright.
Also, it’s quite a sizable dish with generous amount of different types of vegetables.
Lovely dishes they are.

Yes, it’s only 2 dishes but mind you that chicken dish alone houses more meat than the typical Chinese restaurant’s sweet sour chopped chicken / pork meat. I reckon it’s about 3 times more.
Look at the size of the spoon, the height of which the meat was served with consideration of the depth of the plate.
Lovely eh?
Lexiegirl and myself are not what you call “small eaters”, and even for us it’s just perfect for satisfying the hunger. For the average or “small” consumption diner, then both dishes could easily cater for 3 or 4 individuals.
What’s the damage? RM 20 – that’s RM 11 for the chicken, RM 6 for the vegetables. RM 2 for 2 plates of rice and RM 1 for 2 Chinese tea.
Address :No. 7-1 (1st floor), Jalan Tanjung SD 13/2, Bandar Sri Damansara, 52200 Kuala Lumpur.
