Chap Fan a.k.a. Economy Rice, is not a rice, neither is it a dish. If I were to coin a better term for it, I’ll just call it “customized meal”. How it works is that the stall owner lays the dishes out for the customers to pick the dishes. Customers are provided a plate of rice (a styrofoam box of rice for takeaway) and the customer picks the add-on dishes of their liking, and quantity, and pay at the counter.
In this case, CHAP FAN KING just means that they are (or claim to be) King of Economy Rice. So are they king?
To me, it’s a resounding YES!
This is the lunch crowd at Chap Fan King.

Here’s the spread.

And here are what I took. Mine’s the one in front, and the one behind is my wife’s. ![]()

This meal costs nearly RM 20 but it’s well worth it considering the choices the provide and the quality of their dish – that of course also means the ECONOMY rice to be less ECONOMIC.
I’ve even had occasions where I could still get their lemon chicken dish at 3pm, and it still tastes nice!
If you happen to be around that area, do remember to give this shop a try. They’re the stall with the greatest crowd, you can’t miss it!

Why is it that this food looks like turds served with rice and bile topping?
I wonder what precautions are taken with keeping flies off the food. I have seen some food in these kind of shop with lot of dead flies in food.
