I’ve been long hunting for a really nice lasagna and a friend of mine recommended this place so I decided to take a gamble – after all, trying out new places for food is a gamble anyway.
Ben’s General Food Store isn’t new to begin with, I’ve been to Bangsar Village many times but I’ve never took a step to try their offerings. This lasagna-hunting expedition is a good start.
Before diving into the food – let’s have a look at the place, a place which I find the ambiance very suitable for a casual and relaxing dining experience.
They also have quite a few counter with the various food on display.
With that, let’s start – THE LASAGNA!!! I ordered the beef lasagna that costs RM 23.90 and I was really blown away by it. I’ve had lasagna at various places, they’re usually served in a rectangular bowl rather than on a plate as seen here.
Despite the non-usual way of presenting lasagna, the taste was great! Just sufficient cheese, a whole lot of minced beef and of course, the accompanying Bolognese sauce. Lovely!
Next main dish we ordered was the Beef Pie. The pie was HUGE! *Kindly refer to one of the counter photos above* Certainly worth the RM 25.90 price tag.
Those of you who are used to Dave Deli’s style of pie, you’d probably find that this pie looks dry. Fret not.
This pie has plenty of gravy within, and large chunks of beef that comes with it too. The aromatic smell of beef and the brown sauce was just overwhelming, writing this in the wee hours of the night wasn’t just a bad decision – I’m all hungry now.
These main dishes come with salad too, there are number of salad for you to choose from.
We ordered the Orecchiette pasta salad with baby peas, rocket and parmesan (picture below) – bleh, lousy. The pasta was tough. Not worth describing. Let’s move on.
The other salad we ordered was the Grilled chicken with mandarin orange dressing, it tastes pretty decent. It’s as what you see, grilled chicken with some vegetables and mandarin orange dressing.
The last dish of course, was the Boston Clam Chowder – it’s clam chowder served in a really thick bread-made bowl. Even clams were found in the dish itself. Tastes good, worth trying. It’s just RM 10.90
If you have a liking of meat, lasagna, pie and those kind of stuff – please pay Ben’s a visit and let us know what you think. I’m going back there again for sure!
Total damage for us was RM 77.25 which was pretty decent.
