Coliseum is a well-known name among the restaurants in Kuala Lumpur. Today, our visit brings us to their new outlet at Plaza 33 (next to Jaya 33, Petaling Jaya).
This new outlet in PJ means one need not travel all the way to Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman to savor the dishes from this near-century old establishment.

Just opened? Yes, they just opened yesterday.
We managed to get our seat easily, however I noted that quite some crowd were turned away later as there tables were filled. Some chose to wait, it’s clear that the name of this establishment is well remembered.
We ordered the Set Lunch, priced at RM 23.90++. Our bill comes to a little over RM 50.
The Set Lunch comes with a generous serving of mushroom soup (and bread), and a choice of either Hainanese Coffee, Tea or Iced Lemon Tea.
The Set Lunch only has 2 options. Set A is the Hainanese Chicken Chop that’s served with fries and salad. Set B is Deep Fried Fish in Batter / Grill.
For the Hainanese Chicken Chop, I find it to be average tasting and I feel that they fried the chicken a little too long as the crust of the chicken is rather tough. The chicken itself is properly cooked.
As for the Deep Fried Fish, I didn’t quite like the way the batter was done, nor the texture of the fish. It doesn’t give a solid feel to it, though the taste was alright.
My take – even as a set lunch, this was an average meal priced on the high side. I’ve tasted better dishes at around half the price, of which I will be writing about it really soon.
