Waroeng Penyet @ The Curve

This chain of Indonesian Food restaurant is found across Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore but the outlets are very few over here in Malaysia, 2 to be exact. One of it is at The Curve while the other is all the way down in Klang.

The outlet is at a secluded corner of the shopping complex, if you need to know where – it’s somewhere behind Bubba Gumps.

Naturally our priority in choice of food to order, is the Ayam (chicken) Penyet (Item 01 on menu), which I think is the best way to savor the unique Indonesian cooking style. As you can see in the picture below, we had the chicken thigh. Nicely fried, the chicken still retains its tenderness despite the crispy outer layer. It’s not oily but the chicken is on the small side if you’re used to other fried chicken chains.

We also ordered Daging (beef) Penyet. It’s a deep fried slab of beef, I find the beef rather hard and full of sweetness – not something I like with beef but perhaps that’s the way it is for the Penyet style of beef.

Meat-based dishes aside, we thought of having some greens to balance out our intake so we ordered the Kangkung Balacan but I think the dish should have been called Kangkung Bakar Mulut (mouth burning water spinach) because along with it were a whole lot of cilipadi.

No joke I tell you! It’s been a long while my mouth had been through such torture, I thought my lips would turn out like Angelina Jolie’s already. It was a decent kangkung dish, no great but decent. Those who love spicy stuff would probably enjoy it.

Lastly there’s Avocado juice, something to cool the burnt lips and tongue.

What I like about this place is that it has refillable soft drinks.

Our bill came close to RM 50. Below are the details for the outlet at The Curve.

Not every food served is spicy. You just have to be selective.

For those who have low tolerance in spicy food, some food served may not be a good choice. But then, there’s always this counter argument that you eat it for experience sake. Well, it’s your call to make such decision.

To us, everything else is still tolerable, except for the vegetable dish. It was a fiery experience but we managed to sail through safely. This place is now proven and tested by us. 😉
