In last week’s article I highlighted the Shilin Night Market, it was a nice place for street food and in this article I will highlight what I really liked and what I didn’t like. 😀
For my first attempt, I saw some grilled squid and thought it should be great to try but upon speaking to the seller, he said the one that I wanted (the cheapest one) is no longer available. 🙁 With my limiting funds, I decided to pass.
Walking through the night market and passing by stalls after stalls, nothing seemed to captivate me. When all hope seems lost, I came across the basement food court that sells fried seafood!
The fried crabs were the first thing that caught my attention, and my money too!
There were other seafood around but my decision was unfazed, the crabs were mine!
Lovely looking crabs, 150 NT (approx RM 15) for 2 pieces of decently sized crabs. I tried to feast on the spot but being a flower crab, it’s best to feast on it at the table where you have full freedom to peel the pieces and enjoy the experience. I feasted on it only after reaching my hotel room, this crab is definitely something worth going back for. 😀
Being a huge fan of fried oysters, I decided to give the Taiwanese version a try and urggghh, it was a horrible experience. For 50 NT (Approx RM 5), you get this oyster omelette topped with some tomato-like sauce.
The oyster omelette is a mash of oyster and huge amount of starch, I liken the dining experience to eating glue. It was definitely not my type of food, I’ll probably consider this if I need to induce vomiting.
If you need more ideas of food available at Shilin Night Market, do check out this website. I wish I had known about the site before my visit. 🙂
