Ironic isn’t it? So there I was heading to Johor Bahru and on my “to visit”-list was supposedly the best Penang Char Koay Teow in Johor Bahru.
😀 Well, don’t blame me. I’m a fan of Char Koay Teow and will always make effort to try out those that I’ve yet to savor, and it so happened that a friend on Facebook highlighted this so I decided to give it a shot.
Thankfully the GPS didn’t turn out to be “Guna Pun Sesat” in this unfamiliar territory, with my robotic navigation skills and a trustworthy driver, we made our way to the small housing area of Taman Perling and the restaurant was Kim Ling Food Court.
It was pretty late by then and I was lucky enough to be the last patron for the CKT dish, the food arrived in about 15 minutes and I must say that the amount of praise this stall gets over the Internet did made me anxious.
The CKT came and I must say I was left disappointed. It wasn’t bad but I’ve had great tasting CKT’s in Penang, Ipoh, Taiping and Klang Valley but this one just falls short of my “minimum requirements” for a recommendable CKT.
Perhaps it’s the best around the area or even JB, my goodness but to me it’s quite bland and a little lack of “wok hei”
*Wok Hei is explained HERE.
Here’s the location on FourSquare, plenty of praises as seen on the page but I beg to differ. Mediocre in my book so it’s my work against theirs. 🙂
The place closes at around 2pm so the best time to visit is noon, perhaps the CKT would be a bit better around that hour but going by what I experienced, I don’t see how much better it could have been.
