With the renovation completed at Avenue K, the joint transformed from a near lifeless concrete structure to one that’s full of activity, and there are countless F&B outlets available as well. After a meeting in Avenue K itself, I decided to scout around for anything interesting for lunch and among them Warisan Kafe struck my fancy.
As you can guess from the title, my meal for that visit was Nasi Kukus Ayam Goreng Berempah, after all that is their signature dish.
The restaurant is quite simple with just a counter while diners dine at an open area at the concourse, with adequately comfortable wooden chairs and tables.
Just to add, I took the photo above at almost 3PM hence the lack of crowd. The restaurant has quite some patrons around even at 2PM.
And so I ordered the Nasi Kukus Ayam Goreng Berempah (RM 12.50) and time taken between order and delivery was about 5 minutes, that’s really fast but I think the delivery time would be slightly longer for the usual lunch crowd.
The rice comes with fried chicken leg (that’s 2 pieces of chicken), rice, some spicy gravy, vegetables and a hard-boiled egg. The dish tastes as good as it looks and I enjoyed my meal, and I believe that this fried chicken is a good example of how a fried chicken should be.
The skin of this “ayam goreng berempah” is sufficiently fried while the meat is still tender, exactly how a fried chicken should be. I’m always disappointed when I come by chicken that are nicely fried on the outside but bloody on the inside, or the one on the other side of the spectrum being one that’s fried so long that the crust on the skin were almost rock-like.
Back to the dish itself, I’ll describe it as flavorful and if you’re like me who loves Malay dishes then you should give it a try.
As for drinks, I recommend you hold your thirst and get your drinks from 7-Eleven that nearby. 🙂
Warisan Kafe is located at Level C of Avenue K, Lot No: SAC-C-1. Operating hours are from 10AM to 10PM.
