Swensen’s used to be one of my favorite haunts some decade ago but the charm is lost somewhere along the way, especially with a disappointing experience at their Solaris Mon’t Kiara outlet many years back.
On my recent trip to Singapore, I noticed that the Swensen’s at Changi Airport was filled with patrons to the extent there was quite a queue of would-be diners. That sight got my curiosity moving and I thought I’d give Swensen’s another go when I saw it at Avenue K in Kuala Lumpur.
And so here am I again with my favorite dish, the Salmon & Mushroom Baked Rice (RM 25.90) and I’m glad it turned out to be good but certainly not as good as before. The flavor is as what I could only reminisce but when it comes to the product itself, I felt that the amount there’s very little salmon and far less than what I had during the good old days.
I also tried the Chicken Victoria (RM 23.90) – grilled chicken breast meat topped with creamy Victoria sauce, served with vegetable-of-the-day and mashed potatoes. The chicken was good and the portion of vegetable was alright but the overall serving could be better for that price.
Perhaps Swensen’s is in the midst of upgrading their quality and service but given the many options available in the market, it’s going to be tough for Swensen’s especially that they’re holding the short end of the stick.
