Originally from Ubud Bali, Naughty Nuri’s opened in Malaysia back in late 2014 with their first outlet at Desa Sri Hartamas and now they have 4 outlets here in Malaysia itself. I’ve not unfamiliar with Desa Sri Hartamas and having passed by the outlet many times but the one that I usually end up at is the one at Atria Shopping Gallery that opened not too long ago.
One thing’s for certain is that the key player to the franchise’s success is the Naughty Nuri’s 1995 Signature BBQ Spare Ribs, and that’s the actual name of the dish on the menu and it’s priced at RM 49. While the dish comes with lime and other sauce, I assure you that this tantalizing treat tastes terrific just as it is, soft meat peeling off the bones as you cut? You bet.
If pork isn’t your thing then you can give this new addition a try – the Flaming Lambo-Chicken at RM 42, it has nothing to do with the Italian luxury car maker.
This is dish is as what you see – roasted whole chicken marinated with fragrant Balinese spice and Flambé’d with Sambuca. Once the serving presentation is done the chicken will be cut up and served on a platter as seen below. What’s important to me is that the chicken is properly cooked and sufficiently tender, not forgetting retaining moisture.
Those super star dishes aside Naughty Nuri’s also have other signature dishes, take for example this Indonesian Style Nasi Goreng Sambal Kambing at RM 25. I like it that the portion is large (large is always good, value for money) and that the fried rice has this “Wok hei” to it, which is a form of aroma achieved during the stir-frying process. I don’t know how to put that in words but the link I provided should give you an idea, hopefully. 🙂 The fried rice also reminds me of the Yeung Chow (Yangzhou) fried rice (揚州炒飯).
If you’re looking for even MORE meaty goodness then consider The Notorious Beef Short Ribs, at RM 42 this dish comes with a large chunk of beef short ribs served on top on what seems to be another form of fried rice. If you look at the left side of the photo below, there are 4 accompanying flavors with varying degree of spice level – I’m not a fan of spicy stuff so I went with the less spicy dark colored one that has pork lard.
And lastly we have the Naughty Crispy Belly, RM 20 – this is a side dish but one that packs a lot of punch for spicing things up. Stay clear of it if you’re not into spicy stuff. 🙂 Go with it if you don’t mind spicy crispy sweet porky bite sized bits to chew on before the main dishes arrive.
